Creating a Feng Shui Design Home Filled with Joy and Harmony

Feng shui holds an old and rich history and has been used since historic times to create a home filled with joy and harmony, and a sanctuary for de-stress and relaxation. The embrace of this ancient art and philosophy in your new home design will result in an infusion of optimal and healthy energy in your living environment, and boost greater wealth, happiness, and even romance in your life.

The Bedroom

One of the most important rooms in the house, the bedroom should incorporate feng shui design that promotes a harmonious flow of nourishing and sensual energy; imbued with invitation, excitement and soothing calm.

Some key guidelines to adhere to include: the placement of the bed – positioned against a main wall, away from the direct line of the door, and in between two bedside tables; use of soothing colours; appropriate lighting which is not overly bright for a cosy feel; clean of clutter and technology gadgets such as the TV, computers or exercise gear.

The Kitchen

As the heart of a home, the kitchen carries vitality that is connected to the energy of wealth and abundance.

The chef holds a very significant position in the kitchen, and should be placed in a strong spot, supported with a solid wall at their back and a clear view at the stove. The sink which represents water, should not be placed side by side with the stove which represents fire. Minimal clutter, ample space, good lighting and ventilation by the stove are some other basic elements to consider in feng shui design for the kitchen.

The Living Room and Dining Area

The living room and dining area hold the harmony of the family together, and should be designed to optimize comfort and cheer. Avoid overcrowding with furniture and rare collectibles, allowing Chi or the feng shui energy to flow naturally throughout the room.

The sofa and seating areas should be positioned with a clear view of the door, bright lighting accentuated with plenty of natural sunlight and the use of bright colour schemes which are warm and inviting. Round or oval tables absent of ‘poison arrows’ with sharp corners are most ideal, as they symbolize stability. Chairs should be well placed without restricting doorways, creating lots of ample space for easy movement.

Your home is a sacred sanctuary and a haven to recharge and revitalize; imbibing the positive forces of feng shui into its design will have a profound effect on your living space, enhancing a balanced and happy life.
